To the alps

It’s been awhile since I got out and did something active. The weather, grad school and work have conspired and successfully kept me sitting in front of a computer more hours than I would like to admit. But that is going to change. I am going over to Austria to meet up with my parents and brother and do a hut tour in the Alps.

We fortuitously planned this trip in the summer and I have to admit I was a little worried about leaving Washington to go on a ski trip. But it was the Alps and I don’t know how much longer my parents are going to be living there, so it was an easy decision. Living next to a ski area, it is hard to plan a vacation to another area in advance. I get this nagging feeling that with my luck, I will miss out on some good skiing around Washington, while the area I go to is stuck with sub-par skiing. Who wants to spend money going to another area when you don’t know whether the skiing will be any good?

But, like I said, getting over to the alps usually requires some planning. With the way things are here, I will be happy to just get out on the snow and in a winter environment again. These aren’t the tours we are doing nor is it the guide service we are using, but this site has some nice photos from tours in the Alps:
