Trip Report
Another week of hard snow and another day at the clear cut. Visibility was limited at best as we broke trail up the clear cut, but we spied a couple other groups of people through the trees making their way up. As we gained elevation, we noticed that wind had scoured the snow and a crust had started to develop. We decided to stop above Bolton Alley and get turns through there, since that was probably where the best snow would be found. It didn’t disappoint, as the deep snow provided for some excellent turns.
At the bottom, we donned the skins and headed back up. By this time, another group had broke trail to the top, so we hoped in their skin track and headed up. It was extremely windy on the top and we fled into the trees. Taking our lunch amidst the occasional thudding of snow unloading from the trees, we talked about our options going down. We stayed close to the trees, avoiding the open slope of the knob, and it proved to be pretty good. The wind hadn’t hit that section too bad and there was not crust to be found.
