Trevor, Tim and I were moving at 6:30am and quickly made our way up Commonwealth basin. The runout of the couloir was littered with debris from a large slide, probably triggered during the warming we had a month ago. Amazing how much snow is still left at the end of May, and also how little true spring skiing we have had. The snow hadn’t thoroughly frozen over night, but I ended up putting on my ski crampons, as it was relatively steep skinning terrain towards the top.

Nice views of the Lemahs, and a tempting ski run down the backside kept us resting at the top for awhile, but we had a timeline to keep, and getting back at noon required us to not venture any further. The ski was better than expected, considering we haven’t had a proper freeze thaw cycle. We saw a lone bootpacker towards the bottom and encountered a large group while exiting the Commonwealth Basin.
