Trip Report
We had a hearty breakfast next to the car and got moving on the frozen snow shortly after eight. Winding our way through the woods, we quickly came out onto the lake and started the climb towards Heather Pass, crisscrossing other skins tracks laid the day before. Once past Heather, it was onto Maple Pass and across the ridge. Upon reaching the far end of the ridge, Dale let out a shout and pointed. Below us were a pair of wolves (we are pretty sure they were wolves and not coyotes) making there way along a lower ridge.
The ski down to the base of Frisco was great, and probably not a route I would have chosen had I been leading. Fortunately, the day before we had seen a group of three do this route and we followed their lead. The skin up underneath Frisco reminded me of Rainier, with rolling snowfields and hot sun. We skinned up to the top of a "mini pyramid" and had a great ski down, with soft snow and amazing views. Our tour required one more skin up, and then a ski down to Rainy Pass that required navigating through some cliff bands and dense trees towards the bottom.
