Trip Report
Trevor, Emily and I arrived decided to avoid Muir Snowfield on this fine day, and instead head over to Paradise Valley where we were hoping to find some hidden stashes of powder. We had been expecting clouds and rotten weather, but were surprised to find sun and unlimited visibility.
As we made our way up, we noticed how much snow had melted from the exposed parts of the mountain. We reached a nice plateau and we broke for lunch. Sitting there, we had views of Mt Hood and Mt St Helens and we could actually see the smoke escaping from Helen’s dome.
Aftter lunch, we decided to head further east around farther into Paradise Valley. We grabbed a couple turns, crossed a bridge and then found a nice bowl to ski down. The snow was surprisingly good and I did not hit a single rock on my descent.
We re-skinned and ascended to another bowl, where again, we made some nice turns, although the actual descent was not very long and the light was flat. Again, we threw on our skins and made our way to the top of a ridge. From there we skied down to the closed road and had some nice turns in the trees along the way. A quick skin along the road back to the car followed this.
