You would think I would have learned by now, but I always seem to be fooled by the fantasy of pow skiing in October. I have seen it happen, just not to me; only through photos from other people. This year was no exception, with a couple inches of snow on the ground from the get go, yet foggy weather and mediocre skiing. The skiing would have been better if we could have seen more than five feet, but Mount Rainier isn’t known for crystal clear fall days.

On the way up, we saw a large buck and then a doe and fawn. It’s always fun to see animals in the park, as they aren’t afraid of humans and you can get reasonably close without disturbing them. In the summer, when the hordes of people are around, you never see any animals besides marmots, but in the fall, especially early morning, they are out in abundance.
