In between jobs with a week off and Highway 20 happens to open. Plus the forecast was calling for sun. Dale and I decided to head up midweek for three days of North Cascades skiing and car camping. We got moving around 10am, and it was already starting to heat up. The skin up was fairly straight forward as the snow was soft from the morning sun. At the top, we were treated to spectacular views and also spied a group across the valley doing an interesting tour, which we followed the next day. The ski down was good, and we opted to veer East under Whistler peak, following a tongue of snow down past Rainy Pass towards the rest area. Once there, Dale thumbed a ride back to the car and picked me up. My attempts to get a ride were pitifully unsuccessful, while Dale’s roadside theatrics lured a car in. A nice start of the trip.
