Trip Report
10 feet of snow in the past two weeks made us a little nervous about selecting terrain. Mount Catherine’s trees seemed like a safe bet, and we followed the Nordic trail out to the base. We wrapped around the cliff band, and made our way up the slope, feeling better and better about stability. Trevor dug a pit and he didn’t find any weak layers in the snowpack, although we didn’t get down to the dirt.
As soon as we reached the top of Cahterine, the skies cleared and we made our descent, floating on copious amounts of snow. The consistency was amazing, although it felt like we were only skiing in about 10” of fluff, as the snow underneath had solidified over the last couple of days. We found a nice chute through the cliff band, and snuck is some great turns down a nice steep slope. Further down, we picked our way through the trees until we were back out at Mill Creek.
