Trip Report
End of September and the snow level was fluctuating between 4,000 and 5,000 ft. We knew from the beginning this wasn't going to be a sun drenched day with ample amounts of slush. But our hopes were high as we rolled into the parking lot and glanced at the snow covered trees. We were dreaming of September powder, but true to form, Rainier delivered whiteout conditions, cold temps and lots of open crevasses on Paradise Glacier, in addition to the 4 to 5 inches of fresh above Pebble Creek. I can't say the skiing was good, but it was fresh snow and it felt like the middle of winter. What a way to welcome in the new season!
