Trip Report
Knowing that we wanted to ski Shitadhar the next day, we decided for a “rest day”. That meant sleeping in until 6:00am and not skinning more than 3,000ft. On our way in two days before we had spied a nice ridge coming off Friendship Peak that someone else had previously laid turns down. We decided to head over there for the day. Climbing the moraine next to Beas Kund we eyed our ski. We were unsure if we wanted to go ahead with it, as it looked very steep. The day before, the slope had looked moderate and turned out to be much stepper. But we decided to head down and start up it, and we were treated to 900 feet of nice morning turns on our way down to the ridge.
We had to boot up a couple hundred feet of steep frozen snow to get onto a more mellow slope. After that, it was a nice peaceful skin up. It was another bluebird day and I was able to relax and let my mind wander as we ascended. We reached a small plateau on the ridge and decided to stop there. There was a lot more skinning above us, but it would require more of a traverse and the snow was in perfect condition to ski. We admired the views and then began our descent, carving big GS turns in the soft corn snow. Down at the bottom, we put our skins back on and made the slog back up to Beas Kund and then over to our tent, getting back in time for lunch and a nice long rest for the next day.
