Gunjan and I went to the winelands around Cape Town for a day trip with Cape Wine Tours. Our itinerary included the towns of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschoek. We visisted 4 different wineries, tasted more wine than I care to remember and learned about wines, winemaking and grape cultivation. We sampled a number of pinotages, South Africa's well-known red wine. My favorite wine of the tour was the Beyerskloof's Pinotage Reserve 2005 and we made sure to bring some back to the states.

The atmosphere of the towns and the geography made me think of Italy. In addition to wine tasting, we had a great lunch, enjoyed the samplings at Huguenots Fine Chocolates and nibbled on cheeses. It would have been nice to spend a couple of days there, possibly renting a bike to access the different wineries.
