Guye Peak

Jul 30, 2005

It was my first hike of the summer without skis on my back. I decided to scramble up Guye Peak, as that trail usually gets far less people than some of the other popular trails. The parking lot at Alpental was packed, but as expected people were heading to Snow Lake. I only saw three other groups on the way up, and they all went for Mount Snoqualmie.

The sun was out and it was starting to get hot, but the trail was mostly shaded providing relief from the heat. Keeping a good pace up the steep trail, I took my first and only break at the junction of Mount Snoqualmie and Guye Peak. Shortly after that, I mistakenly ventured off the path and started scrambling up a rock face. About 30 feet up, it became too steep and I headed back down to find the main trail. Once I reached the saddle between Guye Peak and Snoqualmie, I hiked around for a bit, getting some glimpses of Red Mountain and the Commonwealth Basin.

Once on top of Guye Peak, I made my way across the ridge. I wasn’t able to get all the way over to the south side as it looked it bit sketchy without a rope. I had a clear view of Snoqualmie Pass and could see the Northern tip of Lake Keechelus. After soaking up the sun for 20 minutes, I headed back down the steep trail back to my car.
