Kirkwood

Jan 23, 2005

After a full night's rest, we decided to head down to Kirkwood for the day. Basile had a bunch of friends going, so we all rendezvoused in Tahoe City and then made our way to Kirkwood. Once at Kirwood, we went our separate ways, each group trying to work some connections for free tickets. After getting lucky, Trevor, Joel and myself spent the afternoon skiing some groomers and going off-piste occasionally. The sun was reluctant to come out, and most of the off-piste skiing was hard-packed.

We ventured over to the backside and had a couple nice groomer runs, and spotted Basile and Squirrel engaged in a snowboard straight-line competition. I yelled at Basile, and got the quick arm raise, as he was too intent on going as fast as humanly possible to acknowledge us. We went back to the car for a late lunch, and sure enough Basile poked his head over the snow bank while we were enjoying our sandwiches. We loaded up with some beers and made our way to the backside, where we hunkered down to enjoy some beers in the sun. Of course, the sun quickly disappeared behind the clouds and after a couple of beers, we headed to the front-side. We decided to take on more run, and we went through the park and then into the superpipe. It has been a long time since I rode the pipe, and I was glad to make it out without injuring myself.
