Since moving to Seattle, I always miss the beautiful autumns in Vermont, with the reds, oranges, yellows creating a canopy of color every fall. I was a little late on this trip, as prime leaf peeping season had already past, but it was nice to get out in the Green Mountains once again. It was a fairly short hike, going North from the Middlebury Gap. On the drive in we passed the Middlebury Snow Bowl, bringing back fond memories of ski racing in my early years.

It was a cool, crisp fall day and we hiked for a couple of hours before turning around. On our way back, we found a young hound who looked quite scared. We coaxed him back with us and left a message with the owner. Nearing the trailhead, the owner approached us and took his dog – he had been out bear hunting the previous day some 15 miles away when is dog ran off.
