Oktoberfest in Munich
Sep 26, 2004 - Sep 26, 2004We arrived by train from Austria around 10am and decided to go straight to our meeting spot with Dan. One problem: I forgot to grab the paper that had the meeting spot. I remembered something about a clock and a plaza, and the name “Marienplatz†seemed familiar to me, so we headed that way. Once there, I new that was the spot and we watched the Glockenspiel perform the cooper's dance. After drinking a couple of beers, we found Dan and went to our hotel. The hotel was in a great location, close to the heart of Munich and also near the fairgrounds where Oktoberfest was taking place.
Our first night at Oktoberfest was one to remember. We were unable to find anywhere to sit down, so we planted ourselves in the stand-up section of the Hofbrau tent. It was mostly foreigners, interspersed with some younger Germans, so we felt right at home. We drank the night away and then headed back to the hotel.
The next day was spent walking around Munich trying to get rid of our hangovers. We went to the Olympic park, the BMW museum, and tried to get into the BMW plant – you need reservations at least 6 months in advance! Then it was back to Oktoberfest for the night’s festivities. We went into a couple of different tents, but eventually ended up at the Hofbrau tent for the night.
