Snow Lake

Jun 27, 2004

There were about 10 cars when I arrived at the parking lot, which didn't surprise me since Snow Lake is the second most popular hiking trail in Washington State. I started hiking a little after 6pm and a number of groups passed me by in the first 15 minutes.

On my way up the switchbacks, I noticed the improvements they are doing to the trail. Fortunately, no blasting was going on while I hiked. The trail was snow-free until I reached the saddle and began the ascent to Snow Lake. There wasn't a lot of snow, but there were patches at certain parts. Once I reached Snow Lake, I made my way down to the shore to snap a couple of photos. Unfortunately, the sun was blaring down in my direction and I couldn't get a good shot of Snow Lake and Mount Roosevelt.

I went back to the main trail and followed it for 5 minutes and found a rock ledge to sit on overlooking the lake. I drank some water, ate some food and took a couple of pictures and then made my way back along the trail.

Snow Lake is a great hike with beautiful scenery, but it is always packed on the weekends. My recommendation is to go during the weekday if possible.
