Steamboat Prow
Aug 9, 2006
Tim and Maria invited Gunjan and I to camp with Maria’s family at Ohanepacosh campground at Rainier National Park. Waking up at 6am on Saturday morning, I realized we had enjoyed the festivities a little too much the night before. The best way to work off a hangover is by hiking and skinning 4,500 feet, preferably on a hot day…
The hike up to Glacier Basin was long but uneventful as usual, and the snowline was receding fast on Inter Glacier, forcing us to hike along the stream before getting on the snow. Near Steamboat Prow, both Tim and I were hurting, but we kept on going and finally reached the top and were awarded with nice views of Emmonds Glacier. The ski down was nice, if a little bit sloppy. We hit a nice chute towards the bottom and found Gunjan waiting for us.
