Sun Valley

Feb 4, 2005

We opted for the half-day of skiing at Sun Valley. This was spurned on by the fact that half day tickets were cheaper. Oh yeah, and we had painted the town the night before and were dealing with the aftermath.

It was a bluebird day, but it was cold with the temperature hovering in the low 20s at both the base area and the summit. Over the course of a few whiskey cokes and a few more beers the night before, we decided we could break the most vertical skied in a day, which occurred at Sun Valley. Seeing as how we were only going for a half-day and feeling a little under the weather, we opted to ski 3 straight runs on Challenger Chair, which whisks a skier up 3,142 vertical feet in a mere 10 minutes.

The snow was a little hard for my taste and I could feel my skis chatter when ever I tried to keep a solid edge. It reminded me of my ski racing days in Vermont. We headed over to Seattle Ridge and got a couple nice runs in. Broadway had received the afternoon sun and was soft enough to lay some big GS turns into. Unfortunately, they closed the ridge around 3:15, so we had to look elsewhere for turns.

After a couple more runs, we decided to call it a day; content with the skiing and ready for a nap. The next day, Trevor and I headed to Frenchman's Bend Hot Springs and soaked for an hour before taking off. I highly recommend it!
